In a sensational case, a doctor in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) ended her life due to the harassment and slighting by her gay husband in Delhi. AIIMS doctor Priya Vedi was found dead on Sunday morning. She checked into a hotel room at 12.30 PM on Saturday and was found dead on Sunday afternoon.
She was married to skin specialist and AIIMS resident doctor Kamal Vedi. They were married for five years. She was found dead with her wrist slashed.
However, it was her last Facebook post that revealed the cause of her death. In the post, she said that though married for past five years, she did not have a physical relationship with her husband, who was gay. She also said that he used to watch gay porn and had sexual relations with men. She further said that he used to physically and mentally abuse her and unable to put up with it any longer, she said, she was ending her life.
It said a detailed suicide note was found on the spot and a similar Facebook post made by the woman revealed that her husband’s sexual orientation led to sour relationship between the doctor couple. Kamal has been booked under sections 498A (cruelty) and 304B (dowry death) of IPC. Police had received a complaint from the doctor on the evening of April 18 that her wife is missing since morning.
It was also being alleged that she was hiding somewhere near Nabi Karim area in central Delhi and a police search was carried out in several hotels.
