Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality rights. In her plea, the actress alleged that several rogue websites have been misusing her name and images without authorization. She further argued that such unauthorized use not only misleads people but also poses a serious threat to the identities of celebrities by fueling online fraud.
The court has adjourned the hearing till January but is expected to grant interim injunctions against the infringing parties. Justice Karia noted that a detailed written order will be issued to ensure Aishwarya Rai’s rights are safeguarded.
“There are only 151 URLs which will form part of the order as far as you are concerned. We will pass orders against each of the defendants because the prayers are broad, but injunctions will be granted separately,” Justice Karia observed.
Aishwarya also sought liberty to extend the injunction to “John Doe” defendants—unidentified parties who may host or circulate infringing content in the future. Such orders are common in cases involving intellectual property and personality rights, where unknown infringers are often involved.
This move adds to the growing list of celebrities approaching courts to protect their digital identity and reputation from misuse in the online space.
