NEW DELHI: Marking her much-anticipated appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned heads with her timeless traditional style. For her red carpet debut this year, the actress chose an exquisite ivory handloom Banarasi saree, exuding grace and elegance.

Aishwarya, a Cannes veteran of over two decades, attended the prestigious event ahead of the premiere of Oliver Hermanus’ historical drama The History of Sound, starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor.

Designed by celebrated couturier Manish Malhotra, the saree featured intricate kadwa embroidery and a delicate tissue drape with an extended lace train. Adding a touch of regality, Aishwarya accessorized the look with a layered ruby necklace from Malhotra’s jewellery collection and adorned her hair parting with traditional vermillion.

Sharing her look on Instagram, Manish Malhotra captioned, “The OG Indian Queen of Cannes @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb embraces Classic White Handloom in a handwoven kadwa ivory Banarasi saree with a handwoven tissue drape and imperial heirloom rubies.”

Videos widely shared on social media showed the 51-year-old actress radiating charm as she smiled and waved at fans on the red carpet.

The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has seen notable Indian representation this year. Acclaimed filmmaker Payal Kapadia is part of the main competition jury, while cinematic legends Sharmila Tagore and Simi Garewal graced the premiere of the restored version of Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic Aranyer Din Ratri. Additionally, director Neeraj Ghaywan presented his film Homebound in the Un Certain Regard segment, accompanied by actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and producer Karan Johar.
