Ajith Kumar is undeniably one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema, enjoying massive stardom in Tamil Nadu. However, his films have struggled to create a similar impact in the Telugu states, unlike his contemporaries Vijay and Karthi, who have found a strong fan base across both regions. In recent years, none of Ajith’s Telugu-dubbed releases have made a significant mark at the box office.
His last outing, Pattudhala, released in February 2025, was a commercial failure in Telugu. Now, Ajith is gearing up for a much-needed breakthrough with his upcoming film Good Bad Ugly, and early signs suggest it might just do the trick.
The recently released Telugu trailer of Good Bad Ugly presents the film as a full-blown commercial action-comedy entertainer. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the film appears to be a fan’s tribute to Ajith himself. With plenty of references to his iconic past roles and Ajith showcasing multiple looks, the trailer evokes a strong sense of nostalgia that could resonate well with fans.
Trisha plays the female lead, and the film also boasts an ensemble cast including Arjun Das, Simran, Usha Uthup, Priya Prakash Varrier, and Roadies Raghu, among others. GV Prakash Kumar is on board as the music composer, and the film is bankrolled by Mythri Movie Makers.
With no major Telugu releases this week besides Jack, and with the wide reach of Mythri’s distribution network, Good Bad Ugly stands a fair chance at the Telugu box office—provided it receives a positive word-of-mouth response. This could be the much-awaited hit Ajith needs to finally crack the Telugu market.
