Tamil superstar Ajith is one of the biggest names in Kollywood, standing alongside Vijay and Rajinikanth. However, his recent script choices have been raising concerns among fans, particularly regarding his dwindling market in Telugu states. Many are wondering when Ajith will make a strong comeback with impactful films.
Unlike Vijay or Suriya, Ajith never had a massive Telugu fan base, but the current industry scenario presents a golden opportunity for expansion. With Vijay planning retirement and Suriya’s recent films underperforming, Ajith could have capitalized on the gap. Unfortunately, his recent dubbed releases—Pattudhala (Vidaamuyarchi), Thegimpu (Thunivu), and Valimai—turned out to be massive disappointments in Telugu, further diminishing his already limited presence in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
His latest release, Pattudhala, hit screens on February 6 and, despite decent openings in Tamil Nadu, it failed to make any impact in Telugu. Poor word-of-mouth and negative reviews led to a quick downfall at the box office.
Ajith’s declining career trajectory is not limited to Telugu alone—his Tamil market has also seen a noticeable slump. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he does not promote his films, attend press meets, or participate in public events. While this strategy might work for strong content-driven films, his recent choices suggest a lack of focus on storytelling as well.
Sticking to a comfort zone, Ajith has repeatedly worked with the same directors, delivering mediocre films. His passion for racing appears to be taking precedence over his film career, leaving fans disappointed. With no gripping action dramas or compelling entertainers in sight, his trajectory is eerily resembling Vikram’s slump before his comeback.
Fans have been urging him to collaborate with fresh, young filmmakers to reinvent himself, but their pleas seem to be going unheard. Many are now questioning: when will Ajith take script selection seriously and make a powerful comeback?
His next release, Good Bad Ugly, directed by Aadhik Ravichandran, is set to hit screens later this year. Whether it can revive his declining streak and give fans a reason to celebrate remains to be seen.
