The tragic death of senior stuntman SM Raju on the sets of director Pa Ranjith’s Vettuvam has sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry. The 52-year-old lost his life on July 13 in Nagapattinam while performing a high-risk SUV stunt for the film.

Raju’s untimely demise has reignited a serious conversation on social media about the safety and well-being of stunt performers in the film industry. Amidst the growing concern, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has come forward with a commendable initiative — providing insurance coverage to approximately 650 stuntmen and stuntwomen across India.

Senior stunt coordinator Vikram Singh Dahiya, known for his work in OMG 2, Jigra, Antim, Gunjan Saxena, and more, expressed his gratitude to Akshay Kumar for this thoughtful move. The insurance plan offers cashless medical treatment coverage between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 5.5 lakh, applicable for injuries sustained both on set and off set.

Akshay Kumar’s gesture has earned widespread appreciation on social media, with many users praising the actor and emphasizing that such measures, though overdue, are essential. Fans and film enthusiasts are hopeful that more actors and production houses will take similar steps to safeguard the lives of stunt artists and technicians who brave dangerous conditions behind the scenes.
