Allu Aravind Discusses Starring Roles and Audience Preferences

In a recent interview, producer Allu Aravind discussed the challenges Telugu actors face when it comes to diversifying their roles after attaining stardom. He agreed that once an actor becomes a star, their range often becomes narrower. Aravind shared a conversation he had with his son, Allu Arjun, about his career post-Pushpa 2. He suggested Arjun consider playing a softer character, such as a younger brother who sacrifices for his family. However, Arjun expressed hesitation, asking for a compelling story that could convince him to take on such a role.

Aravind emphasized that while native and rooted films tend to resonate with audiences across India, aiming for a pan-India film with mixed elements might dilute the appeal. He noted the current uncertainty around softer roles for stars, as filmmakers are unsure how audiences will respond. Drawing from history, Aravind mentioned that a film like Aaradhana, which featured Chiranjeevi in a softer role, didn’t perform well in Telugu, but a similar role in Annayya was well-received. The unpredictability of audience preferences continues to be a challenge for filmmakers in the industry.
