National Award Changed My Path: Nithya Menen’s Honest Confession

January 9, 2025

Nithya Menen, one of the most talented and admired actors in South Indian cinema, made her debut with the Telugu film Ala Modalaindi and quickly rose to stardom. Recently, she won a National Award for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam, a recognition that marked a turning point in her career. In an honest reflection during the promotions of her upcoming film Kadhakikka Neramillai, Nithya opened up about a pivotal moment in her life.

Before receiving the National Award, Nithya had made the decision to quit acting. She explained, “I decided I would finish my current projects and then quietly step away from films. I imagined nobody would know where I was or what I was doing.” However, fate had other plans. Winning the National Award for her role in Thiruchitrambalam felt, to her, like “God’s plan of bribing me to stay.”

Despite the success, Nithya admitted that acting sometimes took her away from her true self. She expressed a longing for a simpler life, saying, “I wanted to be a pilot because I love to travel. I enjoy walking to the park and living a free, normal life. But as an actor, I have to give up a lot of that freedom. Sometimes, I wonder if it’s all worth it.”

Nithya Menen’s next film, Kadhakikka Neramillai, starring Jayam Ravi, is set to release on January 14th. It promises to be another significant chapter in her evolving career.
