Amaravati Relaunch: A Renewed Push with Real Power Backing

Share

The revival of the Amaravati project is now officially underway, with a grand relaunch event held today in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

This marks the second such event for the Amaravati project, with the first being in 2015, shortly after the TDP came to power in Andhra Pradesh and Modi became the Prime Minister. That event, although significant, was more of a ceremonial launch rather than a concrete commitment to the development of the city. Modi’s role at that time was limited to symbolic acts, such as bringing holy water and soil to the site.

However, today’s relaunch is a different story. Modi’s involvement goes beyond just a ceremonial gesture, as he actively participated in the launch of development activities worth ₹57,000 crore. This indicates a tangible shift in the Centre’s approach to the project, with Modi’s government contributing through grants from the World Bank and allocations from HUDCO. The situation appears much more positive compared to 2015, with a renewed commitment to the success of Amaravati.

A key difference between the initial launch and today’s relaunch is the political landscape. In 2015, the BJP held significant power at the Centre and had no major obligation to prioritize Andhra Pradesh’s interests. However, the situation is different now. TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu is seen as a crucial figure in national politics, with his influence at the Centre being much stronger. This shift in power dynamics has allowed Naidu to leverage his position to secure greater support for the project.

Moreover, the alliance between the TDP and BJP is much more consolidated this time, suggesting a more cooperative approach towards the development of the state. With these political developments, there is a sense of optimism that the Amaravati project will finally move forward in a meaningful way, benefiting the people of Andhra Pradesh.
