Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has subtly voiced concern over the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on industrialist Anil Ambani by sharing a news article titled “Curious Timing of ED Raids” on his social media platforms. Though he refrained from offering a detailed comment, the inclusion of hashtags supporting Ambani and the Reliance Group suggested his discomfort with the ongoing probe.
The ED conducted raids at nearly 35 locations linked to Anil Ambani and his group companies in connection with an alleged ₹3,000 crore loan fraud tied to Yes Bank. The large-scale operation drew considerable public attention and appeared to raise questions from various quarters, including Bachchan, who seemed to allude to the timing of the action—particularly as Ambani’s businesses were reportedly on a path to recovery.
Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Ambani share a decades-long personal and professional relationship. In the past, Bachchan has publicly lauded Ambani’s resilience in steering Reliance Power and Reliance Infrastructure through challenging phases. It is also widely known that Ambani extended support to Bachchan during his financial difficulties in the 1990s.
Despite the ED’s scrutiny, Reliance Group companies have maintained that the raids have had no impact on their ongoing operations. Nevertheless, Bachchan’s post has been interpreted by many as an emotional gesture of solidarity, subtly questioning the motives and timing behind the high-profile enforcement action.
