The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced a huge relief package for the flood victims. Amma announced the construction of 10,000 new houses and Rs 10,000 to the people who lost their huts.
A further financial aid of Rs 5,000, 10-kilo rice, a dhoti and a saree will be offered to the families severely affected by the floods and also relief compensation has been announced for the farmers who lost their crops and poultry. Amma further said that the relief aid compensation amount will be directly deposited in the beneficiaries’ bank accounts and the rice, saree and dhoti will be distributed through Public Distribution System Outlets.
Jayalalithaa has ordered the concerned officials to list out the affected families’ and farmers’ names so that the relief package can be offered to them within a few days. Jayalalithaa’s announcement came just a couple of days after her arch-rival and DMK chief Karunanidhi accused her government saying that the CM should follow the Pondicherry CM’s initiative of compensating the farmers and families with a white ration card.
