The swift approval of a Rs 25 lakh cashless medical claim for Saif Ali Khan by Niva Bupa, following his hospitalization due to a stabbing incident, has sparked a debate in the insurance industry. The Association of Medical Consultants (AMC), which represents over 14,000 healthcare professionals, has raised concerns with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

They argue that celebrities like Saif Ali Khan receive preferential treatment, with their claims processed quickly and favorably, while ordinary policyholders often struggle with inadequate coverage and slow claim resolutions.

The AMC has called on the IRDAI to investigate these discrepancies and establish clear guidelines to ensure fairness in the insurance claim process. They specifically pointed out that Khan’s case—where he suffered serious injuries, including a close call with a spinal cord injury—highlighted the uneven treatment of high-profile individuals compared to the general public. Despite the gravity of his injuries, Khan’s claim was approved rapidly, which many see as evidence of bias.

The AMC is advocating for a more transparent and equitable insurance system that treats all policyholders equally, regardless of their social status. They emphasized that insurance should be a tool for protection accessible to everyone, not just the privileged. The organization is calling for an end to practices that favor celebrities, pushing for a system that ensures uniformity in how claims are assessed and approved, with equal care and financial support provided to all individuals in need.
