PaparazziBollywood Stars’ Double Standards in Paparazzi Debate

The paparazzi culture in Bollywood has once again become a hot topic of discussion. Recently, Hardik Pandya expressed anger after paps allegedly captured his girlfriend inappropriately, while Jaya Bachchan sparked controversy by criticising photographers, claiming they “wear dirty pants like drain pipes and think holding a mobile gives them the right to click celebrities.”

Amid this ongoing debate, actress Huma Qureshi offered a balanced take, stating that paparazzi are an essential part of the Bollywood ecosystem and that celebrities must maintain a healthy relationship with them. She pointed out that many stars voluntarily involve paps to promote their films or highlight certain aspects of their personal lives.

Huma explained that when celebrities want visibility, they invite photographers to premieres and events. “Whenever we want to be spotted, we call them. So, I don’t want to put all the blame on them,” she said. She added that throughout her 10–12-year career, she has shared a respectful rapport with the paparazzi. On days when she doesn’t look her best, she simply requests them not to click her, and they usually respect her wishes.

Actress Priyamani also echoed similar sentiments, revealing that many Bollywood celebrities deliberately call paps to airports, cafes, and promotional venues—and even pay them—to ensure they get photographed.

Following these revelations, netizens are calling out Bollywood stars for their double standards: using paparazzi for publicity when convenient, but criticising them whenever they feel irritated or exposed.
