In recent days, Andhra Pradesh has witnessed significant developments regarding district reorganization, marked by multiple government orders (GOs) and notifications. Separate notifications were issued for the creation of Markapuram and Polavaram districts, along with decisions on district headquarters.
Rampachodavaram has been designated as the headquarters of Polavaram district, while Madanapalle has been confirmed as the headquarters of Annamayya district. With these additions, the total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh now stands at 28.
Officials for the newly created districts were appointed promptly, reflecting the government’s readiness for swift implementation of the reforms. The reorganization focuses on restructuring districts, revenue divisions, and mandals to improve administrative efficiency. According to the GOs:
Annamayya district will have three revenue divisions – Madanapalle, Pileru, and Rayachoti – comprising 25 mandals.
Polavaram district will have two revenue divisions – Rampachodavaram and Chinturu – with 11 mandals.
Markapuram district will have two revenue divisions – Markapuram and Kanigiri – totaling 21 mandals.
Additionally, five new revenue divisions have been created, and mandal boundaries have been adjusted as approved by the Cabinet as part of the broader district reorganization.
These administrative changes support the State’s Industrial Policy 4.0 and investment initiatives. Functions such as industry approvals, land administration, infrastructure coordination, and monitoring of industrial parks operate at the district and revenue division levels. Smaller, well-managed districts are expected to speed up clearances, reduce bottlenecks, and facilitate smoother implementation of projects linked to ports, highways, logistics parks, and industrial corridors.
Chief Minister Babu emphasized that the district reorganization is a purely administrative reform, not a political exercise. The aim is to align governance structures with development needs and previously planned industrial corridors.
By strengthening the administrative framework, the government seeks to create a stable and predictable environment for long-term growth. As the New Year begins, these reforms highlight a clear focus on efficiency, execution, and development rather than politics.
