Barely a year and a half into its tenure, the alliance government in Andhra Pradesh is facing mounting public dissatisfaction and intense anti-incumbency. What initially seemed like a strong coalition is now grappling with internal rifts, governance challenges, and a declining public image. Two major issues — the proliferation of fake liquor and the influence of the sand mafia — have dealt significant blows to public trust, giving the opposition YSRCP renewed momentum ahead of the 2029 elections.
Factionalism within the coalition has become increasingly visible. In Anantapur, MLA Daggubati Prasad’s derogatory remarks against Jr. NTR sparked widespread outrage, while clashes between Tadipatri municipal chairman JC Prabhakar Reddy and Jammalamadugu BJP MLA Adinarayana Reddy further exposed divisions. Statements from the JC brothers, and repeated disputes between Kadapa MLA Madhavi Reddy and Kamalapuram MLA Chaitanya Reddy, have projected a fractured image. Rivalries among Vijayawada leaders Kesineni Chinni and Kolikapudi, along with public criticism of Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkat Rao by party colleagues, have amplified perceptions of disunity.
Even recent Assembly proceedings highlighted cracks within the coalition. TDP leader Bonda Uma publicly questioned Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s inaccessibility, triggering a sharp response. Similarly, TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna’s criticism of the cinematography minister over protocol issues, including remarks involving actor Chiranjeevi, added further embarrassment.
The recent murder of Lakshmi Naidu has intensified tensions between two dominant communities within the alliance’s voter base. Allegations of Pawan Kalyan’s interference in the Home Department, coupled with MP Raghurama Raju’s sarcastic remarks, have fueled public criticism. With recurring governance lapses, corruption claims, and persistent factionalism, the coalition’s credibility is eroding fast. Every misstep and public quarrel strengthens the YSRCP’s position, providing the opposition with fresh political momentum. If the alliance fails to restore discipline and deliver effective governance soon, its path to political survival could become increasingly precarious.
