A tragic incident unfolded at the Simhachalam Temple during the Sandalwood festival, where a sudden wall collapse after midnight on Tuesday claimed the lives of seven devotees and left several others injured. The heartbreaking accident has left Andhra Pradesh in shock.
Responding swiftly to the crisis, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reached the accident site by 3 AM on Wednesday. Without waiting for dawn, she immediately assessed the situation, ensured that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, and extended support to the grieving families. Her tireless efforts and compassionate engagement during the early hours were widely noted and appreciated.
As part of her duty, Anitha promptly alerted the police and SDRF teams, overseeing rescue and relief operations on the ground. She also addressed media queries with composure, underlining transparency and accountability in a moment of public distress.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan later issued a statement commending Anitha’s prompt and empathetic response. He said her actions reflect the alliance government’s commitment to standing with the people in times of crisis. “Leadership is not only about swift action, but also about being present for those in grief. Anitha has done both with dignity,” he remarked.
Pawan Kalyan further acknowledged Anitha’s consistent record, recalling her presence and support to the family of Chandramouli during the Pahalgam tragedy. He stated that such gestures go beyond official responsibility and exemplify true public service.
Interestingly, this commendation comes months after Pawan Kalyan had openly criticized Anitha’s performance as Home Minister, particularly in light of increasing crimes against women. During a public meeting in Pithapuram, he expressed concerns about the state’s deteriorating law and order and warned that he might consider taking over the Home portfolio if corrective measures weren’t implemented.
The Simhachalam incident, however, seems to have opened a new chapter in their working relationship, with Pawan now recognizing Anitha’s proactive leadership in a crisis. It remains to be seen whether this renewed confidence will reflect in longer-term reforms within the Home Ministry.
