Marking World Environment Day, the Government of Andhra Pradesh held a state-level celebration to promote awareness about protecting nature and conserving resources. The event saw the participation of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

In a significant announcement during the event, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu revealed that noted environmentalist and wildlife conservationist Anka Rao will be appointed as the Special Advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Government on environmental conservation. The official order confirming his appointment is expected to be issued soon.

Anka Rao is widely recognized for his selfless and sustained efforts in forest and nature conservation. Residing near the Nallamala forest, he has devoted his life to protecting the environment. On a daily basis, he ventures into the deep forest to collect and remove plastic waste left by tourists, ensuring the forest ecosystem remains untouched by man-made pollution.

In addition to his clean-up missions, Rao cultivates millets on a one-acre plot near the forest. Rather than harvesting the crop, he leaves it for birds and other wildlife to support local biodiversity. His dedication has earned him the respect of environmental circles across India and now, recognition from the state government.

With this advisory role, Rao is expected to play a key part in shaping Andhra Pradesh’s environmental policies and sustainability programs. His appointment reflects the government’s commitment to grassroots-led environmental reforms and nature preservation.
