Star actress Anushka’s much-awaited comeback film Ghaati has turned out to be a major disappointment. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film hit theatres last Friday but opened to disastrous reviews and poor box office numbers, quickly slipping towards flop status.
One of the biggest criticisms has been the lack of proper promotions. Instead of attending events or interacting with audiences directly, Anushka chose to promote the film through audio clips. Unfortunately, this approach failed to connect with her core fanbase—families and traditional audiences who admire her but are not very active on social media. The makers overlooked this key factor, which severely impacted the film’s openings.
Expectations were sky-high, as Ghaati was projected to showcase Anushka in a bold new action avatar. However, neither her performance nor the action sequences managed to leave an impression. Viewers largely felt that the film fell flat at the writing level, offering no “wow” factor to engage them. Even Anushka’s star power couldn’t elevate the weak script.
Fans are now strongly voicing that the actress should rethink her approach to promotions. They believe her physical presence at events would go a long way in drawing audiences to theatres. This contrast was especially evident with her last release, Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty. While Anushka skipped promotions for that film as well, Naveen Polishetty took charge with an aggressive campaign. Combined with his standout performance and a refreshing story, the film managed to become a success despite her absence.
But with Ghaati failing to impress, the spotlight is now firmly on Anushka. Audiences feel she must actively participate in promotions to sustain her box-office appeal. Looking ahead, she will be seen in the Malayalam biggie Kathanar, slated for release later this year. Fans will be watching closely to see if she finally steps forward and promotes this project, which could mark an important turning point in her career.
