Stating that Green Energy is the only way forward to a sustainable world, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu said that the truncated state of Andhra Pradesh is soon emerging as Solar Energy Hub. “I see Green Energy as the only way forward to a sustainable world. As part of our greening efforts, we are planning to implement a comprehensive action plan to make Andhra Pradesh a Renewable Energy Hub,” said Naidu in a post on his social-networking page.

Expounding on the plan, Naidu said, “As part of this plan, we are targeting 5,000 MW of solar power and 4,000 MW wind power by 2019. This, I believe, will help us meet the twin objectives of energy security and clean energy.” Setting the record straight, Naidu said that the solar and wind policies in AP have been structured such that renewable energy sector will get boost.

He also said that a special task force is going to be constituted for expediting renewable energy projects. Mr Naidu is predicting that there will be great demand for solar power in India in coming years and capacity go up by 3,645 MW in 2016. “I’m confident that Andhra Pradesh will become a crucial player in this segment.

Foreign players are now coming forward to invest in this sector in our state,” said Naidu. AP Government has inked an MoU with China’s Xi’an LONGi Silicon Materials Corp for setting up of a solar module and cell manufacturing plant at Sri City SEZ. Earlier, it also signed another MoU with China’s Trina Solar to construct a photovoltaic cell production plant, at Atchutapuram SEZ in Visakhapatnam district, which will be built in two phases and provide 3,500 jobs.

Currently, AP shares 10 per cent of the country’s target for solar power. Mr Naidu is expecting that more than 50 percent of India’s manufacturing capacity (of solar power) will be set up in Andhra Pradesh by 2019 by making Andhra Pradesh rise as a Solar Hub in the world.
