AP Govt Replaces CM’s Helicopter with Safer Airbus H160

The Andhra Pradesh government has opted to replace the helicopter previously used by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and other VIPs due to repeated technical issues. Earlier, a Bell helicopter on rent was employed, but frequent malfunctions disrupted official tours, including a visit by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, which had to be canceled due to a technical fault.

Following a security review, officials determined that continuing with the Bell chopper was unsafe. Acting on their recommendation, the government rented a new Airbus H160 helicopter. Authorities clarified that no helicopter was purchased; the decision was only to replace the rented one. They also warned that misinformation suggesting the government bought a new chopper is false and may prompt legal action against those spreading such claims.

The Airbus H160 is more advanced and enables direct long-distance travel from Amaravati to any district, including remote areas like Srikakulam and Chittoor. Previously, tours involved a combination of flights and helicopters, which increased both time and costs. With the new chopper, officials estimate that nearly 70% of travel expenses can be reduced, as additional flights and large convoys are no longer required.

Government authorities emphasized that the decision was made purely for safety and efficiency. The Airbus H160 provides improved security, extended range, and cost-effective travel, ensuring smoother and safer journeys for the Chief Minister and other VIPs while dispelling rumors of unnecessary purchases.
