Apple Inc. is reportedly gearing up to enter the smart glasses market, with its first-ever device expected to debut by the end of 2026 and reach wider availability in 2027.
According to reports, Apple is currently testing multiple design options, possibly launching several variants. These include different frame styles such as large and slim rectangular designs, along with both large and compact oval or round frames. The slimmer version is said to resemble the style often worn by CEO Tim Cook. Color options under consideration include Black, Ocean Blue, and Light Brown.
In terms of build, Apple is experimenting with premium materials like acetate to give the glasses a durable and high-end finish. The company is also developing a distinctive camera setup, featuring vertically aligned oval lenses with lighting elements around them—marking a departure from the typical round camera modules seen in competing products.
Unlike many rivals, Apple is said to be designing these smart glasses entirely in-house. Functionally, the device is expected to be similar to Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, offering features like photo and video capture, calling, music playback, and interaction with Siri. However, it may not include a display, meaning users shouldn’t expect augmented reality (AR) visuals.
This move comes after the mixed market response to Apple Vision Pro, raising speculation that smart glasses could serve as a more practical alternative in Apple’s wearable strategy.
