Apple WWDC 2026: iOS 27 to Bring Major Siri AI Upgrade

Apple has officially announced the dates for its annual developer conference, WWDC 2026, where the company is expected to preview its next major software update, iOS 27. The update is scheduled to be rolled out publicly in June, and early reports suggest a strong focus on artificial intelligence enhancements.

This year, Apple is reportedly placing significant emphasis on advancing AI capabilities, particularly by upgrading Siri. According to a Bloomberg report, iOS 27 may introduce AI extension support, allowing users to integrate and run third-party AI chatbots directly within Siri.

If implemented, this feature would reduce Apple’s dependence on external partnerships like OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration and give users the flexibility to choose from multiple AI services. Users may be able to install and manage these AI tools directly through system settings across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Apple is also expected to introduce a dedicated section in the App Store for AI-powered tools, enabling users to select services such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude for use within Siri. This integration could potentially create a new revenue stream, allowing subscriptions to be processed through Apple’s ecosystem.

The report also suggests that this new AI extension framework would be separate from Apple’s ongoing collaboration with Google. That partnership is believed to focus on improving Siri’s core intelligence using Gemini models, while the new extension system would expand flexibility for third-party AI providers.

Overall, Apple appears to be planning a major transformation of Siri, evolving it from a traditional voice assistant into a more open and AI-driven platform with broader capabilities across its devices.
