With empty hands, how can you visit Andhra Pradesh and aren’t ashamed of it? These are some of the lines AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu wrote in his open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over his visit to Visakhapatnam today.
Stating that Modi owes an explanation to 5 crore people of Andhra Pradesh, he said that the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 came into effect 59 months ago but Modi government still hasn’t fulfilled any of the assurances made in the Act. “I had personally made 29 visit to Delhi and numerous pleas to you, but to no avail,” he said, adding the people of AP “are seething with anger over your betrayal, injustice and cheating.”
He said that “as a representative of five crore people, I’m questioning you on your betrayal and reminding you of our responsibility as public representatives to understand and respond to the sentiments of people.” Issues such as Polavaram Project funds, granting Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, metro rail project for Vizag, bridging revenue deficit and required hand-holding from the Centre, increasing the number of seats in AP Legislative Assembly also were raised in the Open letter.
He also criticised the Modi government for “cheating Andhra Pradesh” by announcing South Coastal Railway Division because it strips AP of Rs. 7,000 crore revenues due to bifurcation of Waltair Division as the major revenue-making freight services have been given to Odisha.” Also, the Chief Minister and TDP leaders will be wearing Black shirts today to protest Modi’s visit to Andhra Pradesh.
