Arjun Kapoor, known today for his impressive fitness and dedication to health, has had a remarkable journey of transformation. Long before his Bollywood debut in 2012, the Two States actor faced one of the toughest battles of his life — his weight. As a teenager, Arjun weighed around 140 kg and struggled with obesity.
Determined to change his life, he lost nearly 50 kg before stepping into the industry with Ishaqzaade opposite Parineeti Chopra. This intense transformation took around 15 months and was built on strict discipline, dietary control, and a rigorous fitness regime.
In interviews, Arjun has often highlighted walking as one of the simplest yet most effective forms of exercise. “When I was overweight, I always believed there’s nothing better than walking. Even now, whenever I need to get back in shape, I stay physically active. You can’t just sit around eating and complain about not losing weight,” he once said.
To achieve his goals, Arjun gave up junk food and high-carb meals, focusing instead on portion control, fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and low-sugar options. His daily routine typically starts with a protein-rich breakfast (often eggs), followed by a gym session. His dinners are healthy yet satisfying, with dishes like Turkish kebabs, muhammara sauce, mint chutney, and pickled vegetables. His fitness plan includes weight training, circuit workouts, CrossFit, and cardio sessions.
In 2024, Arjun revealed that he has been battling Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid and slows metabolism, often causing weight gain. “I haven’t always spoken about it, but I have Hashimoto’s disease. Sometimes, even taking a flight can make me gain weight because my body goes into distress mode,” he shared in an interview.
Diagnosed at 30, Arjun initially struggled to accept it, especially since the condition also affects his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, and sister, Anshula Kapoor. He admitted that the impact of the disease, combined with a series of underperforming films, led him to mild depression and therapy.
Looking back, Arjun acknowledges the toll those years took on him, particularly between 2015 and 2016. Despite his tremendous transformation of losing 50+ kg, he calls his fitness journey a “work in progress.” Today, Arjun Kapoor continues to focus on mindful living, managing his health, and rising above the challenges posed by his condition and public scrutiny.
