As the D-day has arrived, the counting of votes in the high-stakes Assembly elections in the states of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and in the by-poll of Paleru in Telangana has begun. In contrast to exit polls predictions, Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK is leading in Tamil Nadu Assembly polls whereas opposition Karunanidhi-led DMK is trailing. In Assam, Lotus is blooming as BJP is racing towards the victory and its arch rival Congress is on the verge of losing.
Moving on to West Bengal, as expected, Mamata Banaerjee is heading towards victory over CPI(M)-Congress. CPI(M) which had ruled West Bengal for over 3 decades. However, there is a brief respite for communists as their LDF is leading in Kerala.In by-polls of Telangana, minister Tummala Nageswar Rao of TRS has majority of votes against to Congress candidate Sucharita Reddy, widow and wife of late Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy. While it’s a triangular fight with TRS, Congress, CPI(M) fielding its candidates, CPI(M) is no where close to the other candidates.
As people unanimously rejected Congress in states like Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Paleru (Telanagana), the only state where it’s having some relief is Pondicherry. Unlike other states, Pondicherry is Union Territory directly ruled by the Union government.Congress-led front (Congress-DMK) has won 5 seats and leading in 2, AINRC won in 2 seats and leading in four other seats whereas AIADMK won 1 seat, others leading in another seat
