The past week has been one of the most frustrating phases for Indian air travellers, as the civil aviation system was thrown into chaos due to the ongoing IndiGo crisis. With thousands of flights cancelled without prior notice, passengers were left stranded across airports. To make matters worse, other airlines suddenly hiked ticket fares, adding to the public outrage.
Responding to the nationwide anger, India’s Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu delivered a strong and uncompromising statement in the Rajya Sabha today.
Sounding firm and visibly upset, the minister issued a stern warning to all airlines and operators. “We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to passengers. Nearly five lakh PNRs were cancelled within just two to three days. A total of ₹569 crore has already been refunded to affected passengers,” he stated.
He further assured that strict action will be taken against the responsible airline and individuals, emphasising that the penalty would be severe enough to ensure no airline dares to repeat such negligence in the future.
With these remarks, it is clear that the Civil Aviation Ministry is determined to set a strong precedent, making it evident that any operator ignoring safety, service, or responsibility will face serious consequences ahead.
