Bollywood’s second answer to Baahubali 1 & 2 is Padmaavat movie while the first movie is Bajirao Mastani directed by the very same Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Why these two films haven’t taken on Baahubali despite having strong emotional content is the question.
To get an answer for that, we need to examine two scenes that deal with similar content. In Baahubali 2, the beheading scene of Senapathi by Amarendra Baahubali in the court of Bhallaladeva is hair-raising. Despite looking like a barbaric act, the way Rajamouli conceived it gave goosebumps. That’s the scene which sets whole of Baahubali 2 into a new pace which will not stop till the climax.
Now, when we look at the similar scene in Padmaavat where Alauddin Khilji was laid with a condition by Padmavati to behead the royal guru who cheated her husband, Khilji says ‘Manzur’ and executes him. But in this scene, there is no such huge drama or gripping tight narrative that could mesmerise audiences. If the same scene is given Rajamouli kinds of treatment, then the result would have been different.
Despite grandeur and some terrific performances from Ranvir Singh and others, Padmaavat might end up collecting 200 crores ‘nett’ but will not come near Baahubali, say trade experts.
