The senior stars of Telugu cinema are redefining their careers by stepping away from formulaic storytelling and embracing fresh, experimental content. Venkatesh, for instance, is gracefully choosing roles that reflect his age — be it playing a father or even venturing into digital space with the gritty Rana Naidu. Nagarjuna took everyone by surprise with his role in Dhanush’s Kubera, earning praise from Chiranjeevi, who admitted he too would like to follow suit. But when it comes to reinvention, Nandamuri Balakrishna seems to be playing by his own rulebook.
Already a trendsetter with his popular talk show Unstoppable, Balakrishna is now expanding his presence in unconventional ways. While Nagarjuna took on a full-length character in Kubera, Balakrishna has reportedly signed on for a special appearance in Rajinikanth’s upcoming Jailer 2. His inclusion is expected to elevate the film’s buzz, adding an entirely new dimension of excitement.
In an even more surprising turn, Balakrishna is now rumored to be part of the much-awaited sequel to Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi (ENE), directed by Tharun Bhascker. The original film — a cult buddy comedy — had a successful theatrical re-release, prompting the director to greenlight a sequel with the same core cast, led by Vishwaksen. As per reports, Balakrishna will play an extended cameo in the sequel, appearing on screen for about 15 minutes in a role that could leave a lasting impact.
This move is in sharp contrast to typical guest appearances. While Venkatesh made a brief and divine cameo in Ori Devuda, Balakrishna’s reported role in ENE 2 is said to be more involved and significant. His addition not only adds weight to the project but could also redefine how “small films” are perceived when backed by a senior star.
ENE 2 is being produced by Suresh Productions, and although it’s categorized as a smaller film, Balakrishna’s close rapport with Vishwaksen could be a key factor in his interest. However, it’s important to note that this is still speculation and awaits official confirmation.
If this news turns out to be true, it clearly shows Balakrishna’s willingness to evolve and explore meaningful roles outside the conventional commercial format. Even as he continues to headline mass entertainers like Akhanda 2, his openness to impactful cameos reflects a dynamic second innings in his career.
All in all, the evolving choices of senior Telugu heroes — Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, and Balakrishna — mark a healthy and exciting trend. It’s evident they are embracing change, connecting with newer generations, and showing that reinvention truly has no age limit.
