Traditionally, the Congress Party has always played its minority card well merely for votes rather than any genuine concern. However, in a strange turn of events, it is today forced to do some soul-searching on the tag ‘anti-Hindu’ attached to it.
Call it the success of the BJP campaign, or Sonia Gandhi, a Christian being at the helm of affairs or a genuine perception of the public, there is a growing feeling among the public that the Congress is an anti-Hindu Party.
At several meetings held by Rahul Gandhi with top Congress leaders, apparently there was the unanimous feeling that the Congress lost because it was seen as anti-Hindu by the public.
A survey has now been commissioned by Rahul Gandhi across the country where cadre of the Party would be asked whether the Party is considered anti-Hindu by the public and what steps needed to be taken to redress this.
Ironically, the Congress might actually be veering around to what Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, responding to a question on the BJP being acceptable to the minorities, said, “It is not a question of being acceptable to the minority. It is a question of being acceptable to the majority.”
