Planning to visit Belgium? The visa process might look complicated at first, but with the right set of documents and careful preparation, approvals can be fairly smooth. Many recent applicants from India have shared positive experiences, proving that getting a Belgian tourist visa is quite straightforward if everything is in order.

For instance, a family applied through VFS Kolkata on July 22, 2025, and by August 16 they received their passports stamped with a 45-day visa carrying a 60-day validity. Since the husband was set to pursue a master’s degree in Belgium, his student visa paperwork was also used as supporting evidence for his wife and two-year-old daughter’s applications.

The documents they submitted included valid passports and photocopies, completed application forms, a No Objection Certificate and salary slips from the wife’s employer, six months of bank statements, confirmed flight tickets and local bookings, a rental contract in Belgium mentioning the family as visitors, apostilled marriage and birth certificates, travel insurance, property papers, a cover letter, and a notarized affidavit of consent. With everything neatly arranged, the process moved without major hurdles.

A Belgium Schengen visa not only allows travelers to explore Belgium but also provides access to all 27 Schengen countries. From Brussels’ lively Grand Place to the historic beauty of Ghent and the cultural landmarks of Antwerp, the country offers a mix of history, art, architecture, waffles, and chocolates that attract millions of tourists each year.

Belgium issues different kinds of short-stay visas, the most common being the tourist or visitor visa, which is valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry options. Transit visas are also available for travelers changing flights or trains within the Schengen zone.

Applicants must demonstrate sufficient funds, valid travel documents, health insurance, confirmed accommodation, a clear itinerary, and a clean criminal record. Requirements generally include an application form, two recent photographs, a valid passport along with copies of previous visas, a language preference form, a cover letter, hotel bookings, return flight tickets, and proof of funds such as bank statements.

The process involves filling out the application form, compiling the documents, identifying the correct VFS Belgium application centre, booking an appointment, attending the visa interview, and then waiting for approval. Processing usually takes about 15 days, though in some cases it may stretch to 30 or even 60 days depending on the workload and documentation.

The cost of a Belgium tourist visa is €80 for adults, €40 for children aged six to twelve, and free for children under six. With proper planning, the Belgian visa process can be a hassle-free experience, ensuring travelers are ready to enjoy their European adventure without last-minute worries.
