The Bhogapuram Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Vizianagaram district reached a major milestone with the successful landing of its first aircraft on Sunday. An Air India flight from Delhi touched down at the airport as part of a crucial trial run, marking a significant step towards the airport’s commercial operations.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, MP Kalisetti, and senior aviation and government officials were on board the aircraft. Airport authorities closely observed the trial landing to evaluate runway readiness, navigational systems, and overall operational safety.
Being developed as a state-of-the-art international airport, Bhogapuram Airport features a 3.8-kilometre-long runway designed to support wide-body aircraft. Once fully operational, the airport is expected to handle nearly 300 flight movements per day, significantly boosting air connectivity in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
A key technical highlight of the airport is its capability to facilitate landing and take-off operations from both directions, enhancing operational efficiency and safety. The successful trial landing marks a critical phase in the airport’s journey toward becoming a major aviation hub in the region.
