Mahesh Babu’s Old Remarks Resurface Amid War 2 Debate

Over the past decade, Telugu cinema has steadily expanded its reach beyond regional boundaries. With landmark successes like Baahubali, Telugu directors and actors have risen to become frontrunners in the pan-Indian market. Recognizing this trend, Bollywood has been eager to collaborate with Telugu stars in recent years—though with mixed results.

The latest example is War 2, part of the YRF Spy Universe, which received a lukewarm response at the box office. Many Telugu fans expressed disappointment with Jr. NTR’s much-hyped Hindi debut, drawing parallels to earlier underwhelming crossovers like Ram Charan’s Zanjeer and Prabhas’ Adipurush. Despite massive regional stardom, these ventures failed to connect with the wider Hindi-speaking audience.

In this context, Mahesh Babu’s 2022 remarks have resurfaced on social media and are once again sparking debate. During the trailer launch of Adivi Sesh’s Major, the superstar revealed that he had received numerous offers from Bollywood but chose not to pursue them. “I sound arrogant; I did receive a lot of offers in Hindi. But I feel they can’t afford me. I don’t want to waste my time,” Mahesh had boldly stated.

At the same time, he emphasized the growing influence of Telugu cinema across India, noting that his goal has always been to take Telugu films nationwide rather than position himself as a pan-India actor. “Today, the emotion is so intense, films have grown so large that the lines have vanished, and it has become Indian cinema,” he explained.

The revival of these comments comes at a time when Hindi productions like War 2 and Adipurush have struggled to meet Telugu audiences’ expectations. For many fans, Mahesh’s words now feel prophetic, reinforcing the belief that certain stars shine brightest within their home industry while still contributing to the larger landscape of Indian cinema.
