BJP to pitch Eatala to counter TRS in assembly

With the budget session of the Telangana state assembly beginning on Monday, all focus is on former state health minister and now Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Huzurabad assembly constituency Eatala Rajender.

In the last budget session, Rajender was in the treasury benches in the capacity of health minister and he was effectively tackling the opposition party.

Having been in the TRS for over 18 years, he knows very well the in-and-out of the TRS, the strategies of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his strengths and weaknesses.

That is why, the BJP leadership is learnt to have decided to pitch Eatala on behalf of the party against the TRS.

Naturally, KCR and his team would not relish the presence of Eatala in the House and they will definitely try to bully him in the initial stages itself.

The issue came up for discussion at the BJP legislature party meeting held in Hyderabad on Friday.

BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who presided over the meeting, cautioned that the TRS, which has been in deep frustration in the wake of recent political developments in the state, would make every attempt to provoke the BJP members with its aggressive posture/

“But we should maintain restraint and not fall into the trap of the ruling party. Let us adopt a strategic stand, focussing on highlighting the people’s issues and the exposing the failures of the TRS government in the last seven years, instead of entering into the slugfest with the ruling party,” he said.

He also cautioned that the TRS, taking advantage of its strength in the House, might try to bulldoze the discussions on crucial issues without giving enough time to the opposition, but the BJP members would have to make use of every opportunity to raise their voice on the people’s issues, so that it would send a positive message into the people that the BJP was fighting for their cause.

Rajender told the legislature party meeting that the TRS might try to corner the BJP by repeatedly alleging that the Centre was showing discrimination against Telangana in various sectors and not releasing funds due to the state.

Reacting to Eatala’s observation, Sanjay Kumar said he was obtaining complete details on how much money the Centre had released to Telangana under various schemes and for various projects since 2014.

He also suggested that the BJP MLAs should also counter the TRS arguments by pointing out how the state government had diverted the Central funds for other purposes.
