Bollywood’s veteran actress Mamta Kulkarni was recently expelled from the Kinnar Akhara, just days after being inducted as Mahamandaleshwar. The expulsion came after a disagreement within the Akhara, with the founder, Ajay Das, also removing Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi for facilitating Mamta’s induction.
Many members of the Akhara had raised objections to Mamta Kulkarni’s appointment as Mahamandaleshwar. In response to the controversy, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi defended her appointment, claiming that Ajay Das did not hold the authority to expel him.
Baba Ramdev, commenting on the matter, expressed concerns about the purity of the Mahakumbh Mela, describing it as a highly spiritual event. He also criticized certain individuals for allegedly introducing obscenity into the gathering, noting that some who had lived in worldly comforts were now attempting to present themselves as ascetics.
Mamta Kulkarni, once a popular Bollywood actress, left the film industry in 2003 to live abroad. Later, she was accused of being involved in a drug racket. In a surprising turn, Mamta returned to India after years of absence to attend the Mahakumbh Mela, adopting the name ‘Mayee Mamatanand Giri’ as part of her spiritual transformation.
