Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat Dream Project May Be Revived Soon

In the era of big-budget pan-India cinema, filmmakers are increasingly aiming to create stories with nationwide and global appeal. One of the most ambitious among them is Aamir Khan, who has long envisioned bringing the epic Mahabharat to the big screen in a grand cinematic format.
This dream project is not new. Aamir Khan first expressed interest in adapting Mahabharat several years ago, with the intention of presenting the epic in a detailed and visually rich manner. Given the scale and complexity of the story, the project required extensive research, careful planning, and a structured narrative approach.
Around 2010, early discussions reportedly began, focusing on script development and cultural accuracy. The team also explored the possibility of adapting the epic into multiple parts rather than a single film, considering its vast storyline and numerous characters.
By 2015, Aamir Khan revealed his desire to portray Lord Krishna, while planning to introduce fresh faces for other key roles. This reinforced his vision of reimagining the epic with a modern cinematic approach.
Following the success of Secret Superstar, the project gained renewed attention and evolved into an even larger concept—an eight-part cinematic series featuring high-end VFX, international-level production values, and a massive ensemble cast. However, the project eventually faced hurdles, primarily due to its enormous budget and logistical challenges, leading to a temporary pause.
Now, after a long gap, reports suggest that Aamir Khan is once again considering reviving the Mahabharat project. If it materializes, it has the potential to become one of the most ambitious and landmark cinematic ventures in Indian film history.
