Brahmotsavam Movie Review

Story:

Sathyaraj is a rich industrialist who owns a big paint factory in Vijayawada. The joint family of four brothers and a brother-in-law (Rao Ramesh) jointly runs the business. Though fat rich, he always believes in family values leading life with his joint family and celebrating all the festivals together. His son, Mahesh Babu is also of the same mentality.

Rao Ramesh wants to marry his daughter (Pranitha) to Mahesh Babu. It is then, a family friend’s daughter (Kajal) comes down from Australia. And then her arrival brings an obvious turn which leads to differences in the family. What happens next in the story forms the rest.

Performances:

Mahesh Babu’s character in the film is more of an extension to his role in SVSC. He walked through it effortless and his screen presence in every frame of the film is just magnificient. Be it the case of comedy and romance with the heroines or the intense emotions with the family, Mahesh Babu just rocked the show. Kajal Aggarwal is seen as an NRI girl and looked very adorable. We feel we are wanting for more of her.

Samantha comes in as a crucial link in the film. The chemistry between Mahesh and Samantha is very refreshing. Pranitha has got a very limited character and is also not used well by the director. Sathyaraj and Rao Ramesh added value to their roles and are assets to the casting. Jayasudha and Revathi are good as well. Vennela Kishore brings in good smiles. Rest are fine.

Technical Performances:

Srikanth Addala has got a solid point for the film. He chose a huge cast to put the story across. Addala usually have sleak storylines but weaves the magic with good execution. However Addala failed in this aspect for Brahmotsavam. The movie is stuffed with meaningless philosophical dialogues only for the sake of having them.

Things further go worse in the second half with slow paces, unexplained threads. Except for few scenes here and there including those at interval and climax nothing are really good. Even the targeted family audience may find it tough to connect with the film.

Coming to the music, we feel the film is overloaded with songs. The songs composed by Mickey J.Meyer are partly impressive. Gopi Sunder came up with a sensational Back Ground Score. Rathnavelu’s camera work is superb with glorious visuals. Thota Tharani elevated it with his mind-blowing art work.Editing is super weak. A little more care should have enhanced the viewing experience. Production Values of PVP Cinemas are superb.

Plus Points:

1. Storyline and Performances
2. Colourful songs.
3. Couple of emotions scenes here and there.
4. Vennela Kishore comedy

Minus Points.

1. Meaningless dialogues
2. Snail-paced narration.
3. Poor editing
4. Unexplained threads

Final Say:

All the things which worked for SVSC, backfired in Brahmotsavam. One could not understand how a sensible director like Addala go so wrong. Perhaps it will go down as his weakes work till date. Lets see how far the families will be able to rescue it!
