Abidjan, March 15 (IANS) – Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira visited Cote d’Ivoire and held discussions with his Ivorian counterpart, Leon Kacou Adom, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abidjan. Their meeting focused on enhancing diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two nations.
A significant outcome of their discussions on Friday was the signing of an aviation cooperation agreement aimed at establishing direct flights between Brazil and Cote d’Ivoire. This initiative, expected to be operated by one of the two countries’ airlines, seeks to improve connectivity and foster stronger trade and tourism ties, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Vieira also emphasized Brazil’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties by offering more opportunities for young Ivorian diplomats to study at Brazil’s diplomatic academy.
Adom highlighted the economic parallels between Cote d’Ivoire and Brazil, particularly in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries. He underscored the potential for growth and resource optimization through South-South cooperation and strategic partnerships.
“We are working towards signing a strategic partnership agreement to identify key areas for collaboration and inject new momentum into our bilateral relations,” Adom stated.
The ministers also exchanged views on global issues, including the reform of the United Nations Security Council and preparations for COP30, which is set to be hosted in Brazil in November 2025.
Additionally, Vieira extended a formal invitation to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and Foreign Minister Adom to visit Brazil, further reinforcing diplomatic relations.
Beyond aviation, discussions also explored potential collaborations in education and diplomatic training. Vieira emphasized the deep-rooted social and cultural ties between the two nations, noting the significant potential for growth in bilateral trade.
