Four officials deployed at the polling booths for the second phase of elections in Assam faced the wrath of the Election Commission after the poll body suspended the officials after an EVM machine and ballot box were found in a vehicle of a BJP candidate, media reports claimed.
Going into detail, an electronic voting machine (EVM) was spotted in a vehicle that belongs to the wife of Krishnendu Paul, a contestant from the Patharkandi constituency.
The Election Commission has ordered a fresh by-poll in the polling booth and the election body reportedly said that the EVM that was found in the vehicle was not subjected to tampering.
The News Agency ANI quoted the Election Commission officials as saying, the incident took place at the polling booth number 149 set up at the Indira MV School for the constituency of LAC 1 Ratabari(SC).
Responding to this, the Election Commission had suspended four people, a Presiding Officer, and three Polling personnel.
Sharing the viral video clip, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at the BJP and said, whenever such an incident takes place, three things will be in common. The vehicles usually belong to BJP candidates or their associates, the videos are taken as one off incidents and dismissed as aberrations and the third thing will be, the BJP uses its media machinery to accuse those who exposed the videos as sore losers.
