Since its defeat in the Telangana Assembly elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been struggling to regain its political momentum. The party’s failure to secure even a single seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections further highlighted its declining influence. In a significant move, the KCR-led party has now decided to opt out of the upcoming MLC elections as well.
According to reports, this is the first time since its inception in 2001 that BRS is not contesting three MLC elections. The elections cover key districts like Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, and Nizamabad. Party leaders reportedly believe that contesting and losing these elections could further damage their reputation and demoralize the cadre. As a result, they have chosen to stay away from the electoral battle.
However, sources indicate that BRS is strategizing for a strong comeback in the local body polls scheduled later this year. The party appears to be focusing on strengthening its grassroots presence before re-entering the electoral fray.
The last time BRS refrained from contesting an election was during the GHMC polls before the formation of Telangana. At that time, KCR chose to avoid the Hyderabad elections due to the party’s weak standing in the city. Now, with the MLC elections on the horizon, BRS seems to be taking a cautious approach, hoping to rebuild its lost ground before making its next big political move.
