Although Kejriwal has promised to work closely with the Union government for the welfare of Delhi, his very first decision has ruffled quite a few feathers in the Union Ministry.
The AAP government issued directions to various agencies in the national capital on Monday against carrying out any demolition -with a few exceptions -until it reviews the existing policies.
This order which referred to ‘residential houses, jhuggis etc’ seems to be all-encompassing and will come in conflict with cases relating to central land-owning agencies.
This move may put the state government’s relations with the Centre under strain as the directive has gone to DDA, NDMC and Delhi Police which are under the purview of the Central government.
So, if these organizations under directions from the Center decide to go ahead with any demolitions, it will be an open conflict once again between AAP and the Union government.
Also, the role of the media in the victory of AAP cannot be denied. Kejriwal despite not giving a single advertisement to any newspaper was still given front page coverage and eulogized by the media. However, on the first day of his office, the media was banned from the Secretariat.
