Canadian Study Dream Turns Risky Trap for Many Indian Students, Warns Podcaster

The aspiration to study in Canada is becoming increasingly precarious for many Indian students, cautions YouTuber and podcaster Kushal Mehra. In a recent podcast, Mehra urged families to carefully evaluate overseas education options and avoid relying on unverified agents or lesser-known institutions.

He emphasized that while well-established universities such as the University of Waterloo, York University, and Western University remain credible pathways, many students are being pushed toward low-quality private colleges or “diploma mills” that offer little educational or career value. These institutions, he warned, often mislead students with promises of permanent residency and lucrative job prospects that fail to materialize.

The situation, Mehra explained, has been worsened by policy changes such as Motion M44, which allowed international students to work full-time during studies, contributing to a surge in arrivals that Canada’s housing and job markets were not prepared to support. Rising rents, limited employment opportunities, and strained public services have left many students struggling to survive.

Particularly alarming, Mehra said, is the growing vulnerability of young Indian women to trafficking networks, claiming to have personally intervened in multiple cases.

His message to parents is clear: “Do not compromise your child’s future for an overseas dream built on false promises. There are reputable educational opportunities within India. Choose wisely.”
