In a surprising turn of events, actor Vijay Deverakonda is facing legal troubles after a complaint was lodged against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The controversy stems from remarks he made during the Retro pre-release event held in April, which allegedly offended tribal communities.
Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities, lodged the complaint. He claimed that Vijay’s speech was demeaning to tribal people and hurt their sentiments. The issue arose when Vijay, referring to the Kashmir conflict, compared Pakistanis to tribals who fought wars centuries ago.
During his speech, Vijay had stated, “Pakistanis behave like tribals did 500 years ago with the way they fight.” While his message was meant to advocate for unity and education, this particular remark was seen as derogatory toward tribal communities. Vijay also emphasized that “We must stand united and progress. Education is super key.”
Following backlash, the actor publicly apologized, stating, “There was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, whom I deeply respect as an integral part of our nation.” Despite his apology, the Raidurgam police have registered a case under the SC/ST Act and have begun an investigation.
The controversy has quickly gained momentum across Tollywood, with tribal organizations demanding strict action. Industry insiders and fans alike are now closely watching the developments.
Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda’s upcoming film Kingdom, delayed multiple times, is now set for a late July or early August release.
