Bollywood, once known for its romantic liplock scenes, is facing stricter scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In recent times, the CBFC has removed kissing scenes from popular films like Saiyaara, as well as the Hindi versions of F1 and Superman.
The upcoming romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, is the latest to undergo CBFC edits. Reports indicate that nearly 60 percent of a passionate liplock sequence between the lead pair has been trimmed following the CBFC’s directive.
In addition to the kissing scene, the CBFC has asked the filmmakers to mute Varun Dhawan’s “guard” dialogue in the movie. After these modifications, the film has been granted a UA certificate.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, the film also features Sanya Malhotra in a prominent role. Scheduled for release on October 2, it will clash at the box office with Kannada star Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1. The film is expected to collect between ₹10 and ₹12.5 crore on its opening day.
