
A recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW) has sparked widespread discussion across political circles, revealing that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is the richest chief minister in India.
According to the report, Naidu’s total declared assets exceed ₹931 crore, which includes ₹810 crore in movable assets and over ₹121 crore in immovable property. Following him is Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu (BJP) with assets totaling over ₹332 crore, while Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah (Congress) ranks third with ₹51 crore in assets. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is the least wealthy, with declared assets of just ₹15.38 lakh and no immovable property.
The analysis is based on affidavits filed by 30 sitting chief ministers from 27 states and three Union Territories prior to the last general elections.
Breaking down Naidu’s personal assets, he holds movable assets worth ₹4,80,438, including cash of ₹11,560 and bank deposits. He also owns a 1994 Ambassador car valued at ₹2.25 lakh. However, the majority of the family’s wealth belongs to his wife, Nara Bhuvaneshwari, whose assets total ₹763.93 crore, including 3,435 grams of gold, 41.49 kg of silver, and precious stones and pearls worth ₹1.09 crore.
Regarding immovable properties, Naidu owns 95.23 cents of land at Kadapalli village, Shantipuram in Kuppam, where he is constructing a house valued at approximately ₹77.33 lakh. Additionally, he co-owns a 14,950 sq. ft. residential building on 1,225 sq. yards in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, with his son Nara Lokesh, valued at ₹70.20 crore. He also has an inherited property on 0.97 acres in Naravaripalle village, Chandragiri mandal, Tirupati, valued at ₹43.66 lakh. Collectively, his immovable assets total around ₹36.31 crore.
Bhuvaneshwari’s immovable assets are substantial, including five acres of land at Madinaguda, Hyderabad, valued at ₹55 crore, and a commercial building in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, worth ₹30.10 crore, totaling ₹85.10 crore.
For perspective, in 2019, Naidu’s declared assets were ₹20.44 crore, while Bhuvaneshwari’s stood at ₹648.13 crore, showing a significant increase over the years.
