Chandrababu & Revanth Reddy Invited to Delhi for Water Dispute Talks

The Chief Ministers of the Telugu states — Andhra Pradesh’s Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana’s Revanth Reddy — have consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining friendly relations. However, several administrative and operational challenges, especially concerning river water disputes, continue to strain inter-state cooperation.

At the heart of the tension is the long-standing dispute over the Krishna and Godavari river waters. Despite years of discussions, a definitive resolution has remained elusive.

In a bid to address this, the central government has intervened, inviting both Chief Ministers to a crucial meeting in Delhi on July 16. The invitation was extended via a circular issued by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, aiming to facilitate a peaceful and practical resolution to the pending water-sharing conflicts between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

This initiative follows Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s efforts to secure Krishna water allocations and seek financial support for Telangana’s water projects. The Centre is now expected to mediate discussions to establish common ground and ensure equitable access to water resources and irrigation funding for both states.

Meanwhile, CM Chandrababu Naidu is already scheduled to visit Delhi between July 15 and 17, during which he will meet senior Union Ministers, including Amit Shah, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and CR Patil. The water dispute meeting with Revanth Reddy could likely take place within this timeframe.

All eyes are now on whether both Chief Ministers will formally agree to meet in Delhi on July 16, a session that could prove pivotal in shaping water-sharing agreements and fostering improved cooperation between the two Telugu states.
