There was a time in TDP government when Chandrababu Naidu used to duly honour his mentor and TDP founder president Anna NT Ramarao by naming all his governmental welfare schemes after the late NTR. However, NTR Arogya Seva and NTR Bharosa are the only two schemes named after NTR that are still in implementation and rest of schemes are being replaced with Chandrababu’s name.The Chandranna mania has engulfed Andhra Pradesh in such a way that more than a dozen schemes have Chandranna name. Some of Chandrababu’s schemes are Chandranna Bheema (insurance scheme for workers), Chandranna Sankranti Kanuka (civil supplies department scheme of Sankranthi gift packs to families) Chandranna Xmas Kanuka (festive offer for BPL Christian families), Chandranna Vyavasaya Kshetram (for farmers) etc.
Furthermore, some welfare schemes for the minority and SC/ST sections such as Chadranna Girijana Bata, Chandranna Dalita Bata and Chadranna Runamela are headed by social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu. Apart from these, Chandranna Udyoga Mela and Chandranna Cheyuta for the jobless youth and self-help group women boasts of Babu’s tag.
In some cases, Babu has even outdone Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa’s hunger for spotlight by introducing various mini schemes like Chandranna Majjiga and Chandranna Ration etc. TDP has a long history of honoring NT Ramarao, but with Babu taking over NTR’s legacy, TDP too is losing its shine.
