The rainstorm in Chennai left more than half of the city marooned and helpless. The floods not just hit the lives of commoners, the rich and privileged have also not been spared either. The Tamil Nadu government has announced holiday for schools and colleges while most of all the industrial units and offices too closed. Enough damage has also been done to Kollywood.
Going by the forecast, movie shows in several theaters are cancelled for next few days. Shootings of many Tamil films have been cancelled as most of the studios in the Chennai city are damaged and few upcoming movies announced to be released in this and next week are likely to be postponed to other dates.
Tamil Star Kamal Haasan in an interview said, “To describe the situation as calamitous would be an understatement. If this can happen in Chennai can you imagine the plight of the rest of Tamil Nadu? It’s a nightmare for the poor and the middle class. The rich should feel guilty.
I am not so rich and yet I feel guilty when I look outside my window and see how people in my city are suffering.” Tamil, Telugu and other film industry people are coming forward to give helping hand for the cause, but the damage is immeasurable for now. It will take some time for situations to come under control in the city.
