Kannada star Rishab Shetty and the makers of the historical epic Krishnadevaraya are reportedly facing creative and contractual differences, with talks currently at an impasse. According to sources, “Rishab Shetty has raised a few demands that the makers are finding difficult to accommodate. Discussions are ongoing, but if nothing is finalized in the coming weeks, he could be replaced by a prominent Bollywood star.”

The high-profile period film, set to be directed by acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, was initially slated to begin shooting in February. However, the ongoing negotiations have cast uncertainty over the schedule, likely pushing the project’s start date. Following the massive pan-India success of Kantara, Rishab Shetty’s stature has risen significantly. “He has become a larger-than-life pan-India star with an unmatched emotional connect with audiences. Naturally, he seeks assurances to maintain that image,” the source added. “Meanwhile, the makers are navigating their creative vision and budgetary limits.”

Rishab had earlier agreed in principle to portray the legendary Vijayanagara emperor, alongside leading Bollywood and South Indian actors, to craft a truly grand cinematic epic. Adding prestige to the project is Ashutosh Gowariker, celebrated for classics like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar, who is making his South Indian directorial debut. “Ashutosh was deeply inspired by the valiant life of Krishnadevaraya, one of India’s greatest rulers, who reigned from 1509 to 1529 and was celebrated with titles like ‘Andhra Bhoja’ and ‘Karnatakaratna,’” the source concluded.
