Infosys, India’s leading software outsourcing company is planning to setup the world’s biggest free-standing clock tower at 135 mts. that would be 36 mts. taller than London’s prestigious Big Ben tower. The tower will be constructed on the sprawling 350 acres Global Training Campus of Infosys located in the city of Mysore.
Founder of Infosys N.R. Narayana Murthy felt the need to set-up a clock tower as it will give the students a sense of academic breathing and will enhance the image of the campus. The planned tower would be erected over 22 X 22 mts. base supporting 19 floors of gargantuan structure. A board-room will be set on the 7th floor.
EVP of Infy’s infrastructure wing has stated that all the necessary approvals are already in place for the project and it is aimed to be built in 20 months’ time frame. Mumbai based company will design the structure with a mixture of Gothic and Classic styles and a New York based firm will provide structural consultancy. It will be built by Bangalore based KEF Infra. The structure will be pre cast and assembled later on the Mysore campus.
The other two renowned clock tower structures are Hoover Tower (87m) in California and the McGraw Tower (53m) in Cornell.
