With Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party claiming that they will come to power, one of the topics that is being discussed in the political as well as government circles in both the states is the matter of AP Secretariat in Hyderabad. Following a bitter bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh was given the oldest buildings after which the secretariat was divided for AP and Telangana governments.
However, within a year after bifurcation, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu decided to function from Andhra Pradesh and began living in Amaravati, the state capital. But, Hyderabad still remains the joint capital of both the states until 2024. If rumours are to be believed, YSR Congress President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy who is declaring himself as the CM of AP already, has decided to function out of Hyderabad’s AP Secretariat.
According to sources, the AP Secretariat could be revived if Jagan becomes the Chief Minister. Given that the Centre is still yet to issue a Gazette notification declaring Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Jagan could use this opportunity to work from Hyderabad as the state would still have 5 years to finish the capital construction. Despite being the Opposition leader in AP, Jagan continued to work from his residence in Lotus Pond in Hyderabad.
In fact, during election campaigning and also on the day after voting, Jagan flew back to his residence n Hyderabad. YSRCP sources believe that Jagan may choose to stay in Hyderabad and work from AP Secretariat despite Chandrababu moving the entire administration to Amaravati. So, if Jagan comes to power in AP, will the administration and offices, again move back to Hyderabad? The election verdict will give us a clarity on this.
